In the practice of family law, Jackie Is forward-thinking and values innovation. She brought the collaborative divorce and parenting coordination methods to Hawaii as part of her regularly hosted seminars, each taught by mainland professionals. Her firm has also hosted seminars on topics related to father involvement, infant timesharing agreements, and child alienation.
As an invited guest lecturer, Jackie has shared the knowledge she acquired over the course of her career. She has made presentations at the National Business Institute seminars and at the People's Law School classes sponsored by the Hawaii Association of Trial Lawyers. She has been a panelist on public access television for shows like "You and the Law" and "Lawyers Live."
Through her Involvement In various professional organizations, Jackie takes an active role in giving back to the community. She has facilitated children's groups for The Kids First Program (a mandatory divorced parents' education program) and mediated divorce cases for the Mediation Center of the Pacific, formerly known as the Neighborhood Justice Center of Honolulu. She is a past president and a current board member of the Hawaii State Bar Association's Family Law section. She has also been a board member of the Neighborhood Justice Center of Honolulu. In 2004, she received the Daniel K. Inouye Award from the Hawaii Psychological Association in recognition of her distinguished contributions to psychology and mental health.
During the course of her career, Jackie has gained her an insider's perspective on family court. She started out as a law clerk to a Senior Family Court Judge, Betty Vitousek, before joining the Law Office of Nell T. Nakamura as an associate attorney. A few years later, Jackie joined Takushi Funaki Wong & Stone, where she became partner. In July 1999, Jackie started her own law practice.
Jackie is a graduate of the Kamehameha Schools who obtained both her undergraduate degree in Business Economics and Public Policy and her graduate law degree from Indiana University, Bloomington campus.
